Why do towels have woven strips at either end?
Nearly all bath and hand towels I’ve encountered have woven strips (i.e. areas that aren’t usable for drying anything) close to the end about 2 inches/5cm wide running across their width. Why?
Hems prevent unravelling, and I can’t believe ALL towels HAVE to be decorated in the same way.
Sorry – I really can’t see why such a thing prevents unravelling – surely the hems at either end prevent this?
Yeah, it IS nice to have unimportant trivia to worry about, but it must also be a luxury to have time to respond to such inconsequential minutiae
It is a decorative border, prevents unraveling, and also assists in shaping the towel. Terry cloth will bunch up real quick in the washing machine. The width and number of bands also can be used to identify the manufacturer and product line.
